First Steps
Get up and running and make your first sale.
This guide walks through every step from creating an account to receiving your first order. Each step links to a dedicated reference page — if you need more detail on any step, you will find it on the linked pages.
1. Create an account or sign in
Register at verkkokurssikassa.fi or sign in with an existing account. We recommend using Google Sign-In — it is a secure and fast way to sign in.
2. Create an organization
After signing in, create your first organization. An organization is the legal entity in whose name sales are made — in practice, your company or sole trader registration.
See: Organizations
3. Create a checkout
Create your first checkout under the organization. A checkout is a self-contained storefront with its own products, settings, and orders. During creation, you select a primary language for the checkout — you can add more languages later.
See: Checkouts
4. Fill in organization details
Fill in the organization profile: company name, business ID, address, customer service email, and VAT details. This information appears on receipts and in the checkout footer.
Also set the policy links — the URLs for your privacy policy, terms of service, and payment terms. These links are included in the terms acceptance text shown at checkout. They can optionally be configured per checkout rather than at the organization level.
See: Organization Profile and Policies
5. Configure checkout settings
Go through these settings before sharing any checkout links:
- General settings — add a logo and customer service email. A logo makes the checkout more credible for the customer. See: General Settings
- Domain — we recommend using
checkoutas the subdomain, or setting up your own domain. See: Domain - Style settings — customise the checkout appearance to match your brand. See: Style Settings
- Success page — set a checkout-level default success page, which can be overridden per offer. See: Success Page
- Billing form — if you collect customer email addresses for marketing, disclose this in the email field description text in accordance with GDPR. See: Billing Form
- Languages — choose which languages your checkout supports. Customers see the language selector only for the languages you enable. See: Languages
- Integrations — connect Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or other tracking tools, and configure your course platform so customers automatically get access after purchase. See: Integrations
- Post-purchase actions — enable the Send receipt by email action so customers receive an order confirmation. This action is added automatically when a new checkout is created, but it is not enabled by default. See: Post-Purchase Actions
6. Set up payment methods
The checkout needs at least one payment method before customers can purchase.
- For Finnish customers: add Paytrail — it covers all the most popular payment methods in Finland.
- For international customers or other currencies: add Stripe.
- For employee benefits: add Epassi, Smartum, or Edenred as needed.
See: Payment Settings
7. Create a product
Create your first product in the checkout. Remember to choose the correct VAT type for the product.
8. Create an offer
Create an offer that packages the product for sale.
See: Offers
9. Create a checkout link
Create a checkout link for the offer — this is the URL you share with customers. Set a source that describes the channel the traffic comes from, e.g. Email, Meta, or Store. Create a separate link for each channel — this way you can see from the order report where your sales come from.
See: Checkout Links
10. Activate the organization
To accept payments, the organization must be activated. Activation requires filling in billing information and adding a payment card.
Without activation, checkout links lead to a non-functional checkout — customers cannot pay. Make sure the organization is activated before sharing any links.
See: Billing
11. Make a test order
Before sharing the link publicly, we recommend making a test order. Open the checkout link and go through the entire purchase process — check that the product, pricing, receipt, and any post-purchase actions work correctly.
You can make a test payment using Paytrail's or Stripe's test credentials.
Remember to switch back to the real credentials before going live.
12. Add the link to your sales page and receive your first order
The checkout link is ready. Add it to the purchase buttons on your sales page or wherever your customers can buy.
When the first order comes in, you can see it in order management. The order report shows sales broken down by source and product.
Next steps
Once the basics are in place, you can extend your checkout further:
- Add-on sales — offer an additional product during purchase
- Discount codes — create campaign codes
- Course platform integrations — automatically activate courses on Kajabi or Systeme.io after purchase
- Sales tracking — connect Google Analytics or Meta Pixel
- International selling — sell in multiple currencies and languages
